Evelina Nilsson

Evelina Nilsson was born and raised in northern Sweden. She and her siblings were introduced to the mountains at an early age by their father, who was an avid skier. For Evelina, it was love at first sight.
She started with downhill skiing, but she always carried with her a longing for the big mountains. For every holiday, she convinced her family to go to Riksgränsen, which is her favorite place to this day. For a few years Evelina competed in freestyle skiing (moguls), an experience that provided a good base when she eventually returned to the big mountains – her biggest childhood dream.

What made you become a freerider?
I had recently decided to quit mogul skiing and wanted to have a year off, just skiing for fun. I freeskied every day, and towards the end of the season my friends convinced me to take part in the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships in Riksgränsen, the place where I grew up skiing. After three days I stood as the winner of the entire competition. For me, the competition was not about comparing myself to the other athletes. To me it was a personal journey – a competition I had watched since I was a child and that I had secretly dreamed of taking part in. In every run I forgot about time and space and that I was competing. I was constantly reminded of my love for skiing.
The victory made it possible for me to make a living as a professional skier, and it motivated me to develop further in the big mountains. It basically took me back to where it all started at a young age: my love for freeriding originated from the first turns I made as a little girl.

What terrain do you enjoy the most and why?
I prefer large areas with fun and playful terrain. I like making big turns – that’s when I really feel free.
From your point of view, what about Nuvsvåg makes it a good skiing destination?
I love places that are more off the grid. You avoid the hustle and bustle of thousands of other people, and you get to experience nature at its purest. In Nuvsvåg there’s still a lot of undiscovered terrain, and you are surrounded by magnificent nature wherever you look.
Your best memory from Nuvsvåg?
My first trip to Nuvsvåg was in 2023, just after assisting my sister’s first birth. I was quite dazed after my first “doula” assignment and was captivated by Nuvsvåg and everything the place had to offer in an instant. I didn’t know what to expect beforehand but felt a strong longing to come back and experience more upon leaving.
How do you perceive the Arctic Nuvsvåg team and their facilitation?
The Arctic Nuvsvåg crew is fabulous. They spread a lot of love, and you immediately feel like you are part of the family and that anything is possible. I am incredibly grateful that I get to come back to their beautiful home whenever I want, both to create something magical in the mountains and on the yoga mat.
Did you encounter any locals adding to your experience?
When my fiancé and I held a yoga retreat in the summer of 2024 we met a few local gems. It was a joy to see their personal development throughout the days we practiced together. Their open hearts and warmth inspired me greatly.
