Skattviktinden

You can see the west face of Skattviktinden from our basecamp, in the bottom of the valley Jomfrudalen. You may put on your skis outside your cabin and ski to the summit in 4 to 5 hours. The route starts a few meters above sea level and offers slightly hilly terrain for the first 2 kilometers to Jomfrudalen. You’ll then have to ski 3 kilometers of flat terrain before ascending the last 600 vertical meters towards the area around Skattviktinden in a relative short distance. This descent has been immortalized by both the Swedish trio Jacob Wester, Lovisa Rosengren and Emil Granbom in “The Crown Jewel”, and Finnish snowboard legend Antti Autti in an episode of his Youtube series “Arctic Lines”.

The south-east face of Skattviktinden has been immortalized by duo Nikolai Schirmer and Krister Kopala in their film “Revenge of the topside boys”, as well as portrayed by Jacob Wester and Evelina Nilsson in their “Walk the walk”. The area has been dubbed “the dream zone” by Schirmer/Kopala, and “spine central” by Wester/Nilsson.

The south-east face is accessible from Tverrfjord. This area is quite steep and technical, and requires both a certain level of knowledge and a certain level of skills.

Different lines decending Skattviktinden

The area between Sommersettinden and Skattviktinden has several nice lines. You will find steep colouirs, open powder areas, spines and cliffs to go both high and long. The area is portrayed in Antti Autti’s episode from Arctic lines, as well the Swedish trio Jacob Wester, Emil Granbom and Lovisa Rosengren’s The Crown Jewel.

Nikolai Schirmer: We kind of knew what the area had to offer after a sailing trip two years ago, where we got stuck in Tverrfjord: Spines, colouirs and incredible forest skiing right by the road. When we came back, we started the trip by doing three lines on the south east face of Skatviktinden, a mountain that almost dragged me down in an avalanche the last time we were here two years ago.

Part of the mission for this trip for Krister Kopala, Joonas Mattila and myself – Nikolai Schirmer, was to come back to get revenge on that line.

We got our revenge. Big time. We named it “the dream zone” because it was so…dreamy.
