Silas’ tips & tricks

What kind of equipment is essential for you to bring on adventures?
My “bad habit” is that I usually end up bringing the bare minimum of what I need for what I plan to do. If there isn’t enough space for food, a few snicker bars and water is enough. Do I bring shaded or clear lenses? Clear lenses ALWAYS work. Will it be icy? Crampons take up a lot of space, an ice axe will do! Jokes aside, in addition to the stuff you might need, I ALWAYS bring a warmer jacket. The Peak Performance Radiance Hood Jacket is one of the best middle layers I have ever owned.
And of course a pair of skis that suits the mission. If I don’t know what kind of snow is waiting out there, I would bring the 1000skis All Mountain. If I’m on a pow mission my weapon of choice would be the 1000skis Powder. And of course, the normal stuff like skins, sunglasses, extra gloves and an avalanche kit! One big thing that made the experiences better for me was investing in a good touring backpack.
Any good tips to make the trip as good as possible? Any hacks that work for you?
If I can provide one tip, it would be to have a plan before you go out – but to expect that plan to change several times once you are out. I have had very few experiences where the plan we made back at home is the way the adventure turned out. Don’t be afraid to wing it from time to time! And depending on the severity of what you’re planning, bring people that you feel comfortable with, and just have a good fu@#&ng time out there!
