Midtfjellet

At the very bottom of Nuvsfjorden, stretching between the sea and Øksfjordjøkulen, lies Midtfjellet. A hilly mountain ridge that extends from sea level to approximately 600 meters above sea level. The mountain range makes for a perfect beginners trip. However, experienced skiers may also find areas to play in along the ridge. The east face of the mountain offers fantastic powder conditions throughout most of the season and is a popular “mini golf” area.

EasyThe descent can be skied in the same route as the ascent, but the aforementioned east face of the mountain is highly recommended. Along the entire ridge there are good spots to drop in towards Fjorddalen, whether you are looking for “soul turns” or pillow lines.
When dropping towards Fjorddalen, you have to expect 30–60 minutes of skinning back to the car (after finishing all the mini golf runs). Midtfjellet is located about 10 kilometers from Arctic Nuvsvåg’s basecamp.
Different lines decending Midtfjellet
You can drop in towards Fjorddalen along the entire east side of Midtfjellet. The area has powder snow throughout most of the season, which makes it a popular place for mini golf runs throughout the day.
Silas Dillner: We went on this route on a “rest day” just to see more of the area. The sun was out, not a cloud in the sky. But the snow conditions were concrete for the most part. The route starts at the bottom of the fjord just below a small hill. It´ s an easy walk for the most part. With a few narrow parts and one more “significant” climb. The climb is steep but short, and you are able to choose between climbing on rock or in snow. With the rocky part being more exposed. I believe you are able to use a rope to aid a fall if that were to happen. But in my opinion that is not necessary.
Otherwise this route is just a scenic walk and a beautiful ride back home. The route ends on a peak in the middle of the valley with great views over the glacier above and the fjord below.
